My mother had big brown eyes that could smile or pierce me right to the core
And every year her hair was a different color and style than before.
She was very bright, she did the crossword every night,
and now so do I, at least I try.

My mother had graceful hands on piano, I would watch her each day.
And as I got older we would switch seats and she’d listen to me play.
and the music I love now, is all because she taught me how,
and although she’s gone, she lives on

She is the voice that still speaks to me inside
She is the voice that I follow as my guide
She is the voice that still tells me I’m beautiful
She is the voice.

My mother enjoyed the change of the seasons, especially the fall,
We’d go to lunch and then we’d go shopping down at the South Shore Mall,
She’d buy things for the family, and for the grand kids she loved to see,
Now I shop alone, and the kids are all grown.

My mother and I would talk every day and have coffee cake and tea.
She always loved to hear all the stories of things that happened to me.
Sometimes we laughed until we cried, sometimes I just sat by her side,
and although she’s gone, she lives on

She is the voice that still speaks to me inside
She is the voice that I follow as my guide
She is the voice that still tells me I’m beautiful
She is the voice.
She is the voice that lives on.
